He married Margaret Ann Mahon on October 3, 1863, in Zanesville, Ohio. They had seven children: Anna May, January 1, 1865; Alva Asbury (born Michael Earlocker), October 16, 1866; Charles Winthrode, October 15, 1896; William Whip, November 15, 1871; Bertis Hayes, June 10, 1877; George Washington, May 10, 1879, and Minerva, April 15, 1882.
From his great-grandson William A. Schwartz:
He was a Dunkard minister. He homesteaded in the Payette, Idaho, area, with two of his sons. During his life he lived in Ohio; Iowa; Lenora, Kansas; Payette, Idaho, and Salem, Oregon.
Samuel French White was apparently a very devout man, which was why my paternal grandfather, more than once, expressed amusement with the name of the church to which his wife's Grandfather White belonged.
I have a hazy recollection that my grandfather came to Payette, got me, and visited a farm in a canyon near town. Must have been in 1954, 1955, or 1956. Probably took me along for company because there wasn't anyone there to meet or anything there to see. No idea why he went there. I wonder now if that was the farm of Samuel French White and/or one of the sons who went to Idaho with him, who were my grandmother's uncles. (EAS)
